Remember?

Remember remember the fifth of November, the gunpowder treason and plot. I know of no reason why the gunpowder treason should ever be forgot.

In britain and many other former British holiday, they celebrate this day as a triumph of good over evil. A sense of united hate against a common enemy rings through the air as bonfires are burnt and fireworks take off into the sky. A sort of Independence Day celebration, but with more stick it up you assery.

But wasn't it Guy Fawkes, the man that they abhor, a man of passion? I know this was covered in V for Vendetta, but after much research, this is a day not of celebration for the toppling of a possible terrorist action, but the remembrance of a man that saw something and tried to do something about it. Like Luther and the Catholic church, or Martin Luther King, he and them fought for the duty that is of those who serve, to question.

That is why i am celebrating this holiday, not by burning masks or setting off fireworks, but by remembering what it is to be a free man, and what I can do to extend the rights of those who surround me. I, you, we all must stand up to the ones who overshadow us, not with respect, but with questions, and criticisms.

To be free is not to bow down to lenient authority, but to question every word that stems from authorities tongue.
